I've been using my Polaris Sportsman 550 to move my old aluminum v-hill boat between shop and my drive way. About 70 yards total, but up a small incline.

The ATV does well moving this boat...does squat a little. ATV also moves my 1,500 lbs. with ease.

Looking to upgrade to an AlumaCraft or Lund 17' boat, weight will be around 1,850-2,250 lbs. for boat-motor-trailer.

Looking at a trailer dolly like this.

Concerns are:
  • Can the 550 handle this weight? Towing capacity listed as 1,500lbs
  • Will the boat jackknife this trailer dolly going down hill?

Picture of the house down to the shop. It's ~50 yards down the hill...drops about 15 feet over that distance.

It’s all about tongue weight. Your machine could probably move a 4,000 trailer but if it has 500lbs tongue weight it won’t hold it.
