My son and I are working on our 2004 Polaris Sportsman 500, we have the hub and brake assembly off and the Carrier Bearing housing off also. What is the best way to get the inner joint, shaft and cv joint assembly disconnected from the gearbox? Then also is getting the cv joint off the shaft and reinstalling a new one something we can do or should I take it in?

a very very hard pull outward will make it come out of the transmission( it has a lil circlippy ring that holds it in place) if your joint is in good shape and all you need is a boot replacement remove old clamps , pull boot back ans you will see a little snap ring (that you have squeeze together and shaft will slide out with the joint still in the case) mke sure to get the new clamps very tight
