Hi, I just bought 2 1995 polaris sportsman 400s. Both run and drive but have problems.

Also I was just going to ask what are some things maintenance wise that I should do as the atvs have sat most of the past 5 or 6 years?

fluid change? what kind and where?

belts? chains?

are these decent sportsmans even though there the 2 stroke version?

what is the mix ratio on the engines?

any ifo is greatly appreciated!! thank you

Fluids:
1. Front hubs: Polaris Demand drive fluid
2.Transmission:I use synthetic 80w90
3.Engine Counter Balance:10w30 motor oil
4.Oil injection: I would not trust the injection, bypass and use premix
5.Three Chains:Inspect chain and sprockets and oil them
6.Drive belt: Under left side belt cover, check for cracks, fraying etc.
The 2 stroke models run good but in stock form you must know that the piston is weak and will crack or break, especially after high mileage. The best advice I can give is to get you a service manual in book form or online form. I have a 94 400 sitting in the garage right now.

Thanks for the help!!! i shredded the drive belt on one today.... and luckily my buddy had a old cyclone sitting around that had a belt that worked.

Is there anything I should look for that isnt obvious for making the belt come apart?
other than weatherd dry rot or just ageing? thanks
