Been a lurker on here for a while.
I find its a great site!

I bought a new 2012 550x2.
Used mainly for hunting expeditions. It's an awesome utility quad.
Live in BC, came from a dirt bike background, but the old body is getting sick of the beats and in jury's.

1800km
180hrs

Mods:

Full Ricochet skids
Kenda 26" Bearclaw HTRs
Polaris replacement light bulbs
Polaris front bumper
Polaris gun boot mount
Polaris 3500HD winch
Rigid 10x2 light bar
Custom chainsaw mount on rear box
Full tools and tire repair kit on board
Recovery gear on board
Overnight safety gear on board, including rope, tarp, fire starting
Highlifter steering arms waiting to go on
Battery tender pig tail installed

Maintenance

Initial 25 hr oil change and suspension lube
Change all fluids every 50hrs approx
1 set of brake pads up front
Running stock air filter because I didn't like the way the UNI filter sealed up

Issues and repairs

Flip up seat, lock lever seized causing detent balls to destroy plastic
Broke footrest plastic plate under footwell, fixed with skids
Dented oil filter from errant stick, fixed with full skids
Snapped valve stem off front tire, spare stems and tools on board
Winch rope bound up between spool and body, causing seal to get damaged, rope to get damaged and free spool knob to snap, fix in progress if I can find parts

Impression

Love this quad. Tons of room for gear and hauling animals out.
My son and I can enjoy trips on this two up.
Stable climbing steep hills due to extra wheel base.
Power is satisfactory, have bogged down in snow and mud, but is ok.
This thing is friggin huge compared to my buddies Yammy 450

Looking forward to contributing to this site.

Cheers everyone!

Mike

Welcome!!!

I had that happen to my 700 and it also damaged the dipstick to the point I had to replace.

Hey guys, thanks for the welcome.

Here's a couple pictures of the 550x2 out and about in BC.

Bear hunting April 5th, Interior BC. 550x2 on the left Kodiak 450 on the right.

The Kodiak broke a rear diff bolt allowing it to rotate and seperate the rear driveshaft.

Kodiak on the strap

Family Ice Fishing Trip, Feb 10, friggin -30celsius that weekend. She was a little slow firing up. We pulled the sled and snowboard behind the quad on the lake in 5" powder.

Hunting in the Cariboo with my GSP, Roxy. She will ride 2up all day with me.

Modified the gun boot lid, and the mount to drop the overall height by 10", helps for ducking under fallen trees.

Getting ready to head up a mucky valley.

Nice blue lake, seen moose, deer, bear, and a wolf near here. I got the wolf on my wall. :)

Suzuki 400 no match for this mud hole. Polaris to the rescue.

From the LowerMainland.

These x2 are great utility quads, 2 of my buds have them as well. They make great hunting machines.

We hunt locally, region 3, 5 and our honey hole up in Chetwynd.
