New Helix and EBS.

So, my 2021 570 Touring (RVS Stage III, 26" Bear Claw HTR, RVS clutch kit) requires a unique progressive cut helix to get the rpm's to be where they should be. My machine happens to be a difficult SOB when it comes to the transmission and clutching. In an attempt to diagnose the machine, Ryan sent me a straight cut helix (58°). There's no goofy bulbous notch, I'm assuming that's what makes the engine brake, BRAKE. I felt a bit of engine braking during deceleration, like a manual trans car, but definitely not slowing me down like before. I only rode on the street for testing purposes, so I have no clue how it'll feel on the trails, and the trails by me are sucky, almost all low gear riding.

So, what are the benefits of NOT having the EBS? I'm assuming the custom helix can be cut for the EBS, so I'm wondering if I'd prefer NOT having that aggressive deceleration.

This is my first ATV.

Example of the helix Ryan sent me, and is currently installed. Weather has been horrible, so extensive testing isn't something I'm really looking forward to.

Thanks!

Only 2 downside to EBS that I can think of.
1. the the rear tires can lock up in low traction situations.
2. The EBS one way bearing requires replacement more often than a 2 way bearing.

Forgive my ignorance. The one way bearing is on the primary, right? I've taken the drive/secondary apart several times, and I don't recall seeing any bearings.

That being said, that Helix WITHOUT the aggressive notch must still act like a gentle EBS, correct?

Yes, one way is on the primary.

Yes, the machine will still have mild engine braking. If you aren't giving it throttle, it will freewheel/coast down hills

Edit: if you have a one way bearing but a non ebs helix, I'm not sure if it would freewheel or not. I'm sure someone else here could confirm

I was able to get some riding in. I definitely prefer having the legitimate EBS. I'll make sure RVS has the custom Helix machined with the EBS notch.

Uh don't get so wrapped up in tuning and testing that you forget the REAL reason for owning an ATV.... FUN! Relax and enjoy the new machine.
