I recently decided to get into riding so I bought an older sportsman 500 before making the plunge into a new one. I got a 1998 for a good price. Problem I am having was last night riding home I let off throttle because quad was acting funny and when I stopped it was still in forward and stalled. Put bike in neutral and started right up but when I went to put in forward I got a terrible grinding noise and would not engage same in reverse. I did not force it in as soon as it started to grind I stopped. Shut bike off put in forward and tried starting it. It surged forward I kept cranking till it eventually started and kept on throttle till I got it home. As soon as I let off throttle it stalled. It is an automatic. I don't have any experience with quads as this is my first one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
