Just got my first Polaris Sportsman 550 LE in stealth black and forgot to ask
the dealer just what kind of gas milage can I expect?
I know all the particulars about what affects that, but just wanted a general
idea how far I may have to hike back to civilization someday :irked:

Here we go! Like you said it can vary greatly on rider size, style, type of riding. My buddys 130lb wife( who is no slouch ) could probably get 100+ on a tank doing general trail riding between 15-30 mph with occasional mud.

I have gotten 125 miles on one tank but it was sucking air. That was running nice trail at about 20 to 40 mph or so. Pretty safe at 100 miles unless doing a lot of low gear running and then you just have to watch the gauge and start looking for gas.

If you get way out when riding...I highly recommend carrying some extra fuel.
There are many options to carry some fuel.

Simple 1 gallon gas can...Kolpin fuel pack, rotopax fuel pack. I am sure there are others.

Good info... I'm never really out over 30-40 miles so probably not much of an issue for me. Sure like mileage of 550. It is noticeably better than my 700. No comparison to a two stroke (single digit mileage) sled. :)
