Rode the bike 2 weeks ago with no problems. Today the bike will not start. There is no pressure in the fuel rail (checked the shrader pressure relief valve). The bike will start on starter fluid but only for a few moments. I checked the fuse and relay (both are good)

I'm thinking the fuel pump has gone bad or maybe a combination of fuel pump and pressure regulator

Has anyone else had this problem? If so, what is the fix

If you have power at the plug then it's most likely a bad pump.

Common problem - usually just the pump fails, but the right replacement kit will come with a new regulator also - it's like tires and tubes - the old tube may not be leaking, but if you are putting on a new tire might as well have a new tube also.

What voltage should be at the plug? I'm only seeing 3.5 volts with the ignition on.

The pump is definitely bad and I'm replacing it. $78.00 for a high flow pump and new regulator.

Battery voltage at the plug - low voltage indicates a bad relay, bad wire or bad battery

Connect battery neg to the brown wire terminal (C) and battery pos to the red/blu wire terminal (A) and see if the pump runs - use a small dia hose or tube (whatever) to shield (insulate the (B) vio/wht terminal - that's for the fuel gauge - accidentally connect the battery pos to that terminal and it will burn out the sending unit - that is an expensive boo boo.

I ordered the high flow pump and regulator, they will not be delivered for a week. So in the mean time I want to do some diagnostics and I have a few questions.

Should I see 12 volts on connector A RD/BU (LA48) wire? At this point I'm only turning the key on, I have the intake stuffed with a rag, so I'm not turning the starter just a hot ignition. Should I always see 12 volts when the key is on?

I just replaced my pump with the Quantum pump and it is listed "highflowfuel". Price was about 60% more than other I saw. ($78.00) I don't see any pump that has good rating. I have less than 30 minutes use. Will be going to UT In Sept and added millage will be about 500 added miles. I did not do testing of the old pump. Problem could be fixed by addin a quart of fuel 3 times and the 1st time the pump had 20 minites to cool down.

You won't have 12vdc ALL the time the key is on. Only the first few seconds. When the ECU boots up it runs the pump for 3-4 seconds to prime the system and then shuts off. Otherwise, the pump runs ONLY when the machine is running.
