New to the forum and to atvs in general. I have a 2004 Sportsman 600 and I just want to change the darn old in this thing. I have read the manual and watched a few youtube videos, but still have questions.

1. I am all set on the Oil (going to use the Mobil 1). 2 quarts. is that correct?

2. What filter do I get? Is it the Bosch 3300? This document is awesome, but does not specifically mention the 600.

3. All the youtube videos I can find are for the 500 and they reference draining the crank case and cleaning an oil screen. This process isnt referenced in the manual for the 600 and 700. Did I miss something, or is an oil change WAY easier on a 600/700 than it is on a 500?

Anything else I should be doing to the machine? It has 800 miles and 130hrs. I have no idea what periodic maintenance the previous owner did.

Any additional info specific to the 600 I should know?

Thanks in advance.

1. Yeah 2 quarts of Full Synthetic (ur favorite brand) 0-40/5-40/5-50.
2. Not sure about your filter - someone else on here will chime in soon (in a quick search they appear t/b different filters for yours than the 300/400/500 series).
3. Yes they are very different and yes the 600 is 'easier' than the 300/400/500 series. Yours is a 'wet' sump, others 'dry' hence the different process.

Here's a maintenance guide:

I'm not sure the fram 6017a will fit (besides it's a little bitty baby filter). Check this vid out on a 500 oil change, the tech says the oil filters for 500 & 600s are not interchangeable:

From this site here is a 600/700 list: http://www.polarisatvforums.com/forums/atv-repair-maintenance/3236-what-correct-oil-filter.html

Hi Flo- HF198

K&N- KN198

NAPA- 1356 or PS1356

FRAM- PH6014A

WIX- 51356

Then ATVConnection has this post (which seems to confirm the above post's list): sportsman 600/700 oil filters? - ATVConnection.com ATV Enthusiast Community

So triple check before you order. Luck Brother!

I would use AMSOIL instead of Mobile1 because it will hold up better. I have a lot of friends that have moved over to AMSOIL from mobile 1 and they all like it better. Where are you located?

Check the owners manual for the right oil. It would probably run with 0W-40, Formula 4-Stroke Power Sports Oil. My ATV/UTV mechanic says it is the best oil got that machine. Aldo, recommend a WIX 51357 filter to get the best protection. Hope this helps.
Have a fun time.
