The starter might be bad. See if it's getting hot. The float could be stuck and filling the cylinder with gas causing a hard start. Clogged exhaust system?

 

has anyone had gas run out the exhaust if so what would make this happen

 

Stuck needle seat in the carb or exhaust lobe worn off of camshaft.

 

ok well since it didnt happen before the carb swap i am guessing that its the carb instead of the camshaft. thanks

the needle valve is sold by itself from polaris

 

The stuck needle or bad float needle will cause gas to run out of the overflow tube down to the bottom of the carb. More than likely if its doing that you have gas on top of the piston. I also recomend you check the engine oil and make sure you don't have gas in the oil. The best thing to do is buy a new float needle seat and "o" ring. Change oil if you have gas in it.

 

well i might as well rebuild the carb then if you go to my pics the one with the carb stuff would it be the right kit to get its for sportsman 500 03-05 and the carb is 03 just want to be sure and will change oil

 

It looks like the right kit. Make sure to put the e-clip in the correct position when you install it. You might want to ask someone that has a 500 carb on a 425 about the correct jets to use. My atvs are all stock.

 

i would just overhaul the entire carb while you're at it like you have said... if one thing is bad or gummed up another could be.. and it's cheap...
