first you need a good battery, then you can jump across the wires on selenoid, if it turns over, you need a new selenoid, if not , may need a new starter

Thanks all. It's raining and with a couple beers and then a couple more, figured I shouldn't play with the electricity tonight. I'll give it a shot tomorrow. I appreciate the responses.

 

Ok, so I took a steel brush to the posts on the solenoid and put a jumper on the battery and got it to start, but I'm wondering if the solenoid is still going out because it's still clicking even with the jumper on. The next issue, when I did start it with some starting fluid, it smoked liked a banshee from right by the manifold. I heard some rattling on the left lower next to I believe the clutch case (right above the foot rest opposite side of the shifter and pull). I'm wondering, could cat food make this happen if mice put it in there. I found a bunch of cat food in the air filter box earlier, but was wondering if they could get it in further and cause this. I thought maybe cat food got sucked in the engine and was burning caused the smoking. It doesn't smell oily and there is nothing coming out of the muffler. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
