hi guys.

I own a 550 2007 sportsman. recently been out west hunting and I flicked my atv to 4 x 4 for a short time, this did not go well with my polaris and subsequently lost power and overheated. I waited for a short time and resumed my journey. it again overheated and I slowed down and stoped. After a while I started up my quad and all good. Im thinking that this happens ONLY on extreme hot days. To alleviate this should I just connect the thermo fan to run all the time and keep the radiator cool ?
Any suggestions

Didn't make a 550 in 2007, must be a 500? Is it fuel injected? If so some of that era of machine, more commonly the 700-800 would boil the gas in the tank on hot days or while running very slow or idling for long periods of time. It's possible that your water pump is having an issue, thermostat may have stuck closed for a while then opened, dirty radiator, low on coolant, etc.
