Do you have 12v on the red/wht wire at the CDI unit? If yes, do you have continuity to ground between the black and brown wires at the CDI unit?

Throw parts at it all day and if you hit the bad connection it wight work again, but what will you do when it happens again? I prefer to fix the problem and not the symptom.

90% of all electrical problems are connections and 90% of all connection problems are grounds

Stator shouldn't be going into the CDI box! You probably cooked it if you managed to get it plugged in ...

Stator is for charging. The 3 yellow (or white) wires all put out AC voltage - quite a bit of it at higher RPM. That should go directly to the regulator. And neither of these components have anything to do with ignition whatsoever. There's a pickup coil down in that area that DOES , though - those put out about 1 ACV to tell the CDI box when to spark.

I have a 2005 sportsman which had the same problem. Pulled the front body off to get a better look at the wiring. Found a broken white wire. Where it went I have no idea. Put the wires back together and the problem was solved.
