Howdy,
I am new, and this is the first post for me. I'm really glad I found this forum. I bought a 2013 500 EFI used, and it's functioned well for many typical ranch tasks like towing fallen trees, hauling firewood, etc. I had an interesting problem occur with this over Memorial Day. My wife had driven the kids around in it and said it had backfired when she decelerated fast. I had never heard it do this. It sat about an hour and then she got back in with the neighbor's wife and her son and started it in park, then shifted it into low. It was idling a little too low roughly and she pumped the gas pedal to keep it from stalling and it hung the acceleration at speed and took off like a runaway horse and as she passed screaming I can't stop it, she had both feet on the brake with wheels turned fully, and it still pushed straight ahead toward the fence and main road down below. My neighbor and I ran out to help and I shouted turn off the key! My neighbor's wife turned it off and it stopped about 6' from a fence that would have put them over a cliff had she gone through it. It was a pretty wild and scary situation. Now, it won't start but It turns over. It had a battery icon show up, so I charged the battery overnight. It cranks but acts like the injector is not putting in fuel. I attached a photo the girls took of my neighbor and I trying to understand how this occurred after the event. We ended up pushing it back into the shop since it would not start. I would appreciate anyone's help or input on this. Thanks.

I am assuming that the 50 uses a cable type throttle body and not drive by wire like the 900's are. I would start by verifying that the throttle cable is not stuck and opens/closes freely along with the throttle linkage in the cab. It probably will not start because the throttle is stuck or reading errant.

:ditto: What he said is exactly what I was thinking when I read your post.... Verify the throttle cable is functioning correctly / operating freely. I'd guess the same for the no start issue also.... That the throttle position sensor or throttle cable is bad / stuck.

Note, you may also find the "rangerforums.net" would be a useful site to visit and inquire about this at!

Good Luck!

I really appreciate the response and will check the cable tonight. So, if I understand correctly, this throttle body/cable has a position sensor somewhere in the mechanism that can prohibit the starter?

OK, I opened the front, crawled underneath, and pulled the seat to trace the whole cable route and check for a pinch point. Then I actuated the pedal and it appears to be moving freely. It does have slack of around 3/8" at the pedal, but I'm sure some slack is normal, right?
