Fuel prices may sorta put a damper on things FPD. I really love the high elevations, but we were considering the Black Hills this year. I've got forum friends that invited me to stay in their back yards lol. But its still kinda up in the air right now for my crew.

I'm not letting fuel prices determine if I go or not. One never knows if you'll be alive next year to still enjoy it.

Oh, I agree totally. Fuel prices are only a small annoyance as far as I'm personally concerned. It is more of a factor for some of my riding buddies though. I'm pretty sure I'll be out that way if I have to hitch a ride with one of my cross-country trucker friends lol. Just not sure what the final plans will be yet. I should know something more definite in the near future as I press them to get a plan together.
One started a new job a few months ago so he's got to get his boss used to the idea of him being gone for a couple weeks and the other has a spouse and grown kids telling him he's too old to be running across the country acting like a 20 something. I ain't buying either of those excuses and will be pressing them hard in the next few weeks lol. 😁

One factor to consider is once you get there, NO lodging cost at all!

I was elected to post a “Bring your own” clarification list, the fact that I’m the author has nothing to do with selection, several members made contributions, I drew short straw.
-hotel
-white Zinfandel
-face cream
-midol
-vagasil
-hair dryer or dye
-nail file
-face or body pillows
That's quite the list. And a bit extravagant for ATV tent camping.

FYI, travel plans now in ink. We will be in the Black Hills of South Dakota July 19th through 22nd, (Jon, Jerry & Ryan as of now, Tomasz family may join us in SD to be determined) use Saturday July 23rd as a travel day from SD to Gunnison Colorado, (meet up with the Filco family group in Gunnison) ride for 2 days, move to Lake City and do the Alpine loop, then to Taylor Park to finish through July 30.

You don't have to make the entire 2 week trip, you could join us in either South Dakota the first week and return home or Colorado the second week or both.

If anyone has any interest in this contact me.

As you are riding the trails of the beautiful San Juan’s Mountains, here are a few facts you might not know.
All of these mountains were formed by plate movement, volcanic activity and then erosion by wind, glaciers and rivers.
The San Juan’s are the largest mountain range in the Rockies with the most land above 10,000 feet. They reach from Gunnison to Durango and include 12 peaks over 14,000 feet.
By far the largest volcanic caldera is the La Garita which is about 30 miles wide and 50 miles long. It poured out over 1000 cubic miles of ash when it erupted around 30 million yeas ago. Wheeler Geological area close to Creede is composed of ash from this eruption.
The geology of this area is so unique and spectacular, people from all over the world come here to study it.
I thought this might help some understand and appreciate how special these mountains are. It’s not just a big pile of rocks put here for an obstacle course to see how fast you can ride over.

The more you learn, the more you enjoy!

You need to realign your priorities. All that is just an excuse.
