Hello. I have a 2012 sportsman 500 Ho and all the breaks are “closed “ Their not locked up, but the calipers aren’t releasing, their holding the pads onto the rotors. I would like to clean or rebuild these, because they’ve never been serviced. About 900 miles, most of which were put on this year. There’s plenty of videos online and I have a manual. My questions are: when you take the break line off, will the fluid completely empty out ? And should you replace all the brake fluid ? Not sure if there’s a specific order or any other advice. I’m assuming the master cylinder might need to be serviced. Thanks in advance

The vehicle is 10 years old - when was the last time the brake fluid was changed? If it was more than 3 years ago, replace the brake pads and while you are at it replace the fluid by pumping all the old fluid out and putting new fluid in the reservoir as the old fluid is being displaced and disposed of.

Thanks for reply. Brake fluid was never changed or added. I greased everything and changed oil, oil filter, transmission fluid and front end fluid. I started to hear a slight squeaking sound, which is the reason im investigating further. With atv up in air and in neutral, the tire seems to ”drag“ or not spin very freely. Brakes work perfectly fine, but im guessing they should be serviced. The pads are holding onto the rotors and wasn’t sure if this was normal. I’ve ridden through water and I’d like to be able to service the break system on a regular basis. I also bought a couple of wheel bearing greasing tools. Thanks
