so a lot of people with a trail boss 250 or a cyclone 250x from 1985 to 1987 may have had this problem. The gas tanks on the trail boss and cyclone get very brittle. mine broke because a buddy put his hand on it as a brace while pull starting, now I have 5 chunks including the section with the gas cap that have been soldered (plastic melted together with a soldering iron) but the solder is weak because there was no plastic added, does anybody know what kind of plastic those tanks are and what kinds of things might use it. I figure maybe one of the old unused for years Jerry cans would work cause they both hold gas but I figure I double check first.

That wouldn’t be too bad actually, having an aluminum tank, also lateburd, you were right about 50:1 fuel, my quads top end went, it has no more compression. Blew the piston rings I’ll start mixing it richer on oil if I get the top end rebuilt
The more oil you can mix with the fuel without fouling the spark plug; the faster the engine will run and the longer it will last. The limiting factor is usually the weak ignition system.
Mines got pretty strong ignition, it’s got enough to shock a person all the way up to the shoulder when checking for spark if they hold the plug
