So i have a 2005 polaris scrambler 4X4 HO. I have recently been riding when i started feeling my chain jump or skip.... I couldn't ride more than 2 meters without the chain slipping/jumping and me losing all power. My chain is fairly loose and also skips when i put the bike into gear. I hoped off and looked into the sprocket area from the engine. The chain is jumping after going around the sprocket and heading back towards the rear tires. Is my chain too lose and needs to be tightened or replaced, or is my main sprocket worn out? The sprocket i am talking about is the one connected to the engine that powers the chain. Please help!

Sounds like it may be one or both. I'd start with the chain as that is easy to adjust. Jack the quad up so the rear tires are off the ground, loosen both bolts that hold the rear axle carrier tight and rotate it so the top goes towards the front to tighten the chain.

If the teeth aren't protruding past the rollers on the chain, it's gonna skip.

With a 10+ yr old quad, just replace them both. They are probably the original.

Furthermore, on the concentric drive system, it's practically impossible to get the chain so loose it skips. My guess is the drive sprocket is shot with rounded or missing teeth.

I just changed my chain and sprockets and I must say the most frustrating part was that darn snap ring on the small sprocket. Make sure you have a nice pair of snap ring pliers.
Truer words have never been spoken. I spent more time screwing with the drive sprocket than the rest of the mess put together.
