I have a 2001 Polaris sportsman 400 and I am in the search for new tires. My current tires are 25x8-12 on the front and 25x11-10 on the back. All the sets I’ve been seeing online are 25x8-12 on the front and 25x10-12 on the back. My question is would it be ok to change the size from 25x11-10 to 25x10-12 and would they fit on my current rims?

Thanks

Jaime

Hi you wont be able to fit 12" tyres on 10" rims you would need 12" rims than it will change the rolling diameter of the rear that may mess up the 4wd operation but i will leave that to someone more knowledgeable than me.

The numbers on the tires mean this:
25x12-10
25 inches Outside Diameter
12 inches Wide
10 inch Rim

You cannot put a 12 inch tire on a 10 inch rim or vice versa

You need to maintain the OD of each tire front and rear for proper operation of the AWD, but the width can be changed to satisfy your whims and the wheel size can be changed also, so if you want, put on (if you can find them and fit them to the chassis) 32x20-15 or 42x9-23 or 18x12-8 (whatever strikes your fancy and your wallet can afford) just keep in mind that going larger on the OD will effectively gear up the drive at the cost of low end power and going smaller effectively gears down increasing low end, improving throttle response and reducing top attainable speed.
