Good morning folks.
2003 Sportsman 700- (Well taken care of!)
I have noticed that in the last month, It is a little tougher to start and immediately upon starting, you smell hot coolant. While it warms up, you smell coolant in the exhaust. After 15 seconds, it runs perfectly!
idles well, great power and smooth.

I Worry that this is a cracked block.
PLEASE tell me that I am wrong!!????? HELP!

Thank you all.

You are wrong if that helps.

If unsure about how deep the water is wade in from the shallow end of the pool. :)

Think a leaking gasket first as the coolant pathway to the cylinder chamber.

Now if you got it to 400F by boiling out all of the water then refilled it with ice water to cool it down you may have cracked the block. I would stop riding it in the mean time however.

If you do replace the head gasket in the end you will have a full view of the bore at that time to actually confirm or rule out you first fear.

Not that hard to do, and you don't even have to pull the motor to do it. You will have to pull most of the plastics, and gas tank to get access. Get a shop manual for detailed instructions and torque specs for the head and lifters so it gets done correctly. There are many links on here for a free or very inexpensive download of a digital copy of a manual.
