I am having a heck of a time trying to get the starter out. The service manual says there are two bolts holding it to the engine, but I can only access one, can't see or find the other one. I have removed the air cleaner box, recoil for pull start, rock protector plate and clutch cover. Is there something more I need to remove to access this thing? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

i think with that one you need to remove the flywheel cover and one bolt is under there

there were two small bolts holding the bendix that I removed in the flywheel housing. it seems there is another bolt somewhere holding the starter to the engine.

im trying to remember i think it sits under the bendix meaning you can see it when the bendix is in place but it may be different then mine was a 2000

There is two bolts inside the recoil cover and two bolts behind the inner belt cover.

You have to remove the recoil cover, the outer clutch cover, both clutches and the inner clutch cover to get the bolts out - you have to get bolts #11 out of the upper part of the bracket #10 to be able to remove the starter motor.

Thanks for the info. I was able to access bolt#10 from unde neath but couldn’t see or find #11. Hope to get back to it in the afternoon and make a tool to remove the clutch.
