aftermarket filter then because the 1000 uses same air box as 850 there is a little air duct on top the air box, take that out cut the box back about 4-5 inches then put a new hood scoop. I say bring it back 4 to 5+ inches to give it a wider area for air to come through, these bikes are big time restricted at stock for air.
I got the idea from rick on here, but i took another scoop that i ordered, cut a hole in the plastic right in front of the seat and installed the new scoop. also cut about an inch out in front of the scoop on the box. Im running a k&n filter with an outerwears pre filter. no fuel controller. i dont ride in the mud or water unless i have to.
