My 06 Sportsman 450 wasn't charging anymore so I replaced the bad stator and crankshaft position/pickup sensor and now I'm recieving the charge but my RPM's are incorrect.. Not even relative to actual engine speed I can a steady high idle and watch RPM go past 4000 at which point engine begins to cut back.. I've reinstalled original pickup sensor, tried a new coil, check the ground, the gap, even bought another stator w sensor and tried it. Absolutely lost and need this running we got a foot of snow on the ground... What does the sensor pickup on the flywheel? Could it be defective?

Is it possible that the pickup sensor or the coil connections were reversed or hooked up backwards??

The coil has 3 yellow wires that have no order, label or anything. that connect to 3 yellow's. I've tried multiple orders of connections with same result.. the pickup sensor is wired to a clip that will only plug in one direction.. I would also believe that testing with a used but good coil/stator and pickup sensor with oem clips would have worked and pointed out any issues like that..
