2000 Magnum 325.

I went away for a couple of weeks...problem when I came back.

Was running great when I left, now it starts and runs only with the choke on.

Turn the choke on and it starts and idles fast....turn the choke off and it dies.

Put some carb cleaner thru it, but no change.

What to do??????????????

time to take carb off and clean it good..do you use any fuel stabilizer....if not get some....I like the Marine StaBil...it has cleaners in it and also anti corrosive additives....when gas sits un used for awhile...the ethonol will start to corrode aluminum....ever see the white chalky stuff in a carb...thats oxidation...thats what ethanol does....

take carb off....use a wire bread ties to clean all the orfices...spray carb cleaner in all of then and blow them out...reverse blow if you can ..also...

start there and see what happens

The pilot jet is plugged, its the small jet down in the hole , need a small screw driver to remove it, as stated sometimes need a small wire to get it opened up If machine sits outside , might be some fine sand in the bottom of gas tank causing you problems, unhook fuel line and drain fuel thru a clean paper towel see whats in your gas.

Main Jet

Thanks for the replies. You guys had it just right...some black dust-like stuff had stopped up the main jet. Rest of carb was very clean. I drained the gas from the tank through a white cloth and got some of the same stuff. Bought a new inline filter and Polaris dealer said the black stuff is from ethanol gas. I will start using non-ethanol, I guess. What is the thinking on still using an additive and which is better Stabil or Seafoam?

Put it back together today and it runs great. Took me about two hours to put it all back together, but I think I could cut that in half if I did it again. I bet the guy who designed the carb/air box set up sits around laughing to himself about all the people struggling to get all the rubber connectors and clamps back just right.

I like the Marine Stabil as a stabilizer and sea foam as a monthly cleaning product...

sea faom
50% light hydrocarbon oil (pale oil);
30% petroleum naphtha;
10% isopropyl alcohol;
10% water.

marine sta bil

Myth #1: “STA-BIL contains alcohol.”

STA-BIL products—including our fuel stabilizer, ethanol treatment, marine formula and diesel fuel stabilizer—contain proprietary ingredients. While we can’t share the full list (it’s a trade secret), we can tell you that alcohol is NOT one of them.

Our stabilizers and treatments each contain a powerful mix of additives and chemicals that neutralize acids, prevent gasoline from oxidizing and coat metal surfaces to prevent corrosion.
