Hello, I'm new to the forums and this is my first post. Im having problems with my scrambler. I bought it a few weeks back for 500$ the guy said it needed a stator and a ignition switch he was using a wire to bypass the switch. I replaced the battery and tried it, it wasn't getting spark so I plugged up the ignition switch he had and it started getting spark I don't know why he thought the switch was bad. I put it all back together and it ran perfect. The CV joint was clicking and it finally snapped so I replaced it. It was running perfect and I ran it out of gas, it sat for 3 days and I filled it up with gas and rode it for around 25 minutes and i got off with it running to check something and it shut off. I got back on turned it on and it wouldn't idle without me giving it gas. So I drove it back home and right when I let off the gas it shut off. After that it wouldn't start.I let it sit over night and it ran in the morning for about 10 seconds and shut off, every so often it would run. I thought it was the carb so I took it off and cleaned it and it didn't help. It has weak spark and it backfires so loud when I choke it and try to start it. I'm completely stumped and can't figure it out.

Have you checked the throttle free play/ETC?

Could a bad ignition switch be causing this? How do I adjust the throttle free play? It is leaking a little gas out of the shut off on the gas tank.

First of all Welcome. Now not to be rude but you need to do a bit of reading and asking educated questions or you will just end up throwing money at the problem up until the problem goes away. That is an acceptable way to do it but not the best way. ETC is the adjustment on the right handle bar. Pop the top off the throttle box and make sure that the two contacts are about a 16th of an inch apart. It is a safety feature.

Check your oil for the smell of gas. If you do then your carb is leaking into the cylinder. The backfiring is a sign of gas going in and spark not burning it. Start there.

Still haven't got it running. I've checked the throttle free play, it has compression and it hasnt sheered a flywheel key. I had my stator tested when I got it and it was good. Cleaned the carb out and it wasn't bad at all. I'm kinda leaning towards an electrical problem like the cdi. I'm gonna take it to a guy who works on these next week and see what happens.

I got it running a few weeks back.. Ended up being the flywheel key. Haven't had any problems since. This thing runs like a top and I only have about 700$ invested in it!

That's great! For $700, it sounds like you are way ahead on this quad!

Mine did kinda the same thing. If it isnt an improper Pulsar gap. Check the pilot jet in the carb. Mine came loose and was barely hanging on by a thread. I dont know how it didnt fall into the carb bowl. Kept flooding the motor and wouldnt start unless I held the throttle wide open.
