I took mine out late last year after i found the bike would stall when the exhaust went under water. I had to always keep my thumb on the throttle WITH the spark arrestor in. Once I removed it, I can now idle with exhaust submerged.

Spark........

It may be against the law to ride on State/Fed land to ride with it removed. Also some ATV parks. Check were you do the most riding.

it makes it louder for sure.
I didn't notice any gains, except the back pressure under water improved.
To take it out, there is a set screw in the tail pipe. gently unscrew it. Mine was seized pretty good.
