After some plowing last night, I parked the plow and took the 550 for a rip. I looked behind me and with it being nighttime I could see some sparks shooting out the muffler.

Not a lot, and the engine was running perfectly. Anyone have any idea whether this is normal or not?

Sparks from exhaust are common. This is why Spark arrestors are required in wooded areas. You shouldnt be getting too many sparks from the factory pipe though. It shouldnt last long or be constant. It is is constant you have an issue you need to have checked.

Oh. That seems like something basic I should have known.

Makes sense. When I get back home I'll check it out again.

Thanks!

Same issue here. I was thinking the same thing until I looked at the spark plug on my bike. It showed very lean conditions. Makes me think that the timing or valves could be off? I have two 550's and the engines do not sound anything alike. I am going to adjust he valves on both and see what happens.
