I would like to have some more mid range pull for trail riding.
I haven't pulled the cover off to look, so I dont know what I have.
Online parts searches show this part number 7042202 Spring, Clutch, Blue/Gray
2.5” 0
2.25” 30
1.25” 170
And the owners manual show this one 7041157 Primary Spring blue/green
2.5'' 0lb
2.25'' 10lb
1.25'' 110lb

So what pound rate, at what compression do I need to look for? What would this do for me, EPI PATV7 Brite Green 17lb/38lb/123lb or this one PATV12 Almond 19lb/37lb/160lb

Any help would be appreciated

Hey bud I can't tell you but if you don't get the response you're looking for from some of the other knowledgeable members try giving Ryan over at RVSPerformance a call. Guy is super knowledgeable on all things clutch and really honest.

The result... This was done with a polaris sportsman 400HO 2014 with mudlite xl 26x9x12 in front and 26x12x12 rear. they weight 98lbs instead of 61lbs for the stock. Mainly use for hunting, so slow thecnical trail with rock and mud and hopefully towing a moose once a years 😁.

first I remove the primary clutch spring wich is a blue/grey. I have not found any spec for this spring so I measured it
2 1/2 : 0 lbs 2 1/4 : 34 lbs 1 1/4: 203 lbs

203 lbs surprise me, I was expecting something around 120 lbs like the blue/green spring found in the sportsman 500 (5-24-117) so I tested the polaris white spring I have : 2 1/2 : 35 lbs 2 1/4 : 54 lbs 1 1/4: 141 lbs pretty close to the specs. So the way I measured the springs is good.

I've done some tests with the stock one and with the polaris white to compare :
-RPM engagement (barely moving) stock : 2000 White : 2400
-Low gear 5km/h stock : 3000 White : 3200
-Low gear 10km/h stock : 3600 White : 3700
-Low gear 30km/h stock : 5100 White : 4900
-Top speed on gravel road stock : 80 km/h at 6450rpm White : 80km/h at 6300 (Max RPM 7000???)

The clutch engage higher, it doesnt kick and it still easy to control at low speed. You can feel there is a little bit more power when it start moving. It seem to pull harder until 50 km/h but after that it seem to be less powerful and take long time to built RPM between 6000 and 6300. This can be explained by the softer spring pressure when compress (203 vs 141)

I also done 1/4 miles run and measure it with an app on my phone. Nothing really precise here I just wanted to have some number to compare... I will put some screenshots to show you but there is nothing really concluant, maybe the white spring is a little bit faster on the 0-50 km/h.

So for the sportsman 400 2014 (blue/grey spring) The white spring is not the best option. The rpm is higher until 4000 but then it's the opposite. I feel Iam loosing too much, I will put back the blue/grey spring and find a another one that is near 35-220lbs. But the white spring should be a good remplacement for the blue/green spring.

I will not buy from them because of the shipping cost to canada... their green spring is a 60-200lbs. The polaris white spring engage at 35lbs, 60lbs may be too high for my needs. I found a spring from Dalton industrie wich is a 15-225lbs (part# : DPPS-R/Y/S). It will raise the RPM a little bit everywhere compare to stock so I think it will work pretty good. I will do an update when I have it tested.

the result for the dalton spring red yellow and silver :

Firts, I measured it : 2 1/2 : 31 lbs 2 1/4 :56 lbs 1 1/4: 215 lbs

I've done the same tests with the dalton spring :
-RPM engagement (barely moving) stock : 2000 Dalton : 2400
-Low gear 5km/h stock : 3000 Dalton : 3400
-Low gear 10km/h stock : 3600 Dalton : 3800
-Low gear 30km/h stock : 5100 Dalton : 5200
-Top speed on gravel road stock : 80 km/h at 6450rpm Dalton : 81-82km/h at 6700

The dalton RYS spring have Almost the same engagement RPM as the white spring, but stay higher in RPM until 6700. It feel like it does accelerate quicker. So I do some 1/4 run for comparison. As you can see with the number, it is cleary faster. I also take a ride to my hunting spot, its more like a technical trail with rock and mud going like 5 kmh. Since it running higher in rpm in seem easier to keep the rpm steady, the rpm doesnt drop in mud or climbing rock.

So The dalton RYS did help with the bigger tire, its a good improvement for the price. If you cant have acces to dalton spring, there is the polaris spring from a 6x6. Its a 42-220 lbs wich is almost the same spec as the dalton RYS. the number is 7043372. Hope it help someone.
