I think the ergonomics and plush ride will be in the 550's corner still as it's built on the same chassis as the 850 etc.

I see the 550 losing sales now. The 570 is going to be faster. The value line suspension is much softer and easier on your back (I have owned both), cost less, now has efi and eps. Now I can see how the 400Ho will make since in their line up. Not so much the 550 now. I will give them a plus on the 550 X2 having power steering standard equipment. Just my thoughts. As a new customer new to atv's what would you buy? A 550 or a 570? The 570 is gonna sell like hot cakes

 

I agree, with all the XP chassis issues, and the rock solid reliability of the value chassis, these are a better buy. They will sell like hot cakes!!

And after all the years of value Line engineering neglect, it is our turn!!

Having the 570 value line, and having the option of a value line with eps was a stroke of genius by polaris.

Alot of people had to get the 550 to get eps, now a more affordable alternative. AND efi to boot!! Almost wish i would have waited, saved some cash and picked up a 570 over my 850.

 

Good features, for sure, on the 570. Still not going to be an XP in the handling/ suspension arena though. In my opinion, the 550 XP (and the 850XP) are the best for ergonomics and handling. Just sitting on them brings that fact to the surface. I doubt I would trade my '10 550XP for a new 570, even it was even-up. :veryhappy:

 

Have you sat on and ridden 570 to compare.

 

To each there own on comfort.... sitting on the two I prefer the width of the value line over the narrow seat of the XP series. Bars feel about the same to me.... but better ergo's are claimed.... okay? Suspention.... to me is a toss up. Yes the double front a-arm of the XP adds, but the rock solid frame of the value line is priceless (from the cracked welds standpoint).

 

As a 76" tall person, the XP chassis quad feels like the seat is pushing me forward, toward the handlebars. Not sure if that was ever addressed. I have not been on one newer than 2011.

I got rid of my 500 be chase it was hard to steer and needed just a tad more power. This 570 EPS model solves those problems. This will be a great machine with an ugly pod light LOL. Still glad I have an XP...I wouldn't go back to a value model but that comes at a higher price tag and of course higher maintenance.

I see huge discounts coming on the 500s that are left. I can't see buying one when you get 20% more power and EFI on the 570.

Was kind of hoping to see a larger engine in the X2 this year, but glad they did not do that. A larger engine and EPS, and I would have had to figure out how to swing the loan.

After looking at the numbers the 570 has a whooping 3.? something additional horse power. That will make almost no difference. I think I'll stay with my tried and true 550 for now. I do not think Polaris is advertising it as a larger horse power engine, just a new engine design.

 

i would think that maybe next year we could maybe see a sportsman 650 xp

There have been a bunch at the shop with transmission problems though. The motor seems solid though.

 

Would it not make more sense to keep the value line 500 and delete the 550xp and add a 650 xp twin instead.

 

Maybe they will replace the 800 with a prostar twin?

Polaris is upgrading the value line, not expanding it.

I expect the 400 will be next.

 

Maybe some day they'll dump both lines and come up with the best of both worlds.

 

Popo SM 570 vs 550

I've been researching the popo Sportsman 550 and 570 for months. I currently own a 2000 popo sm 500 and I like the ride, but wish it had more power and power steering. I've seen YouTube vids of guys driving the value 570 sportsman and can hang wheelies on it very easily. My old 500 barely can lift the front wheels from a stand still. I am pondering buying the touring model 2up bike. I am 6'-5" and hate feeling cramped riding double on my 1up sportsman 500. Here's the kicker, the 1up 570 sportsman comes with or without PS, but the 570 touring 2up bike doesn't offer PS. What's up with that? I have to buy the 550 EPS touring bike if I want PS. I can live without it but my current 500 is so hard to steer at low speeds tight turns, so it's a PITA. Should I just bite the bullet and get the 550 eps touring or save my money and snag a 570 touring? The value 570 touring bike has ONE seat that is molded for two riders (double hump). The 550 touring bike has a single flat seat with a removable 2up seat in back. WHich is more comfortable, pros and cons of each? I like my leg room and I typically sit very far back on seat because my legs are so long.

 

EPS reliability

I can understand why ppl are fans of EPS, but how well is the power steering motor built? I hear tales of riders (of various brand ATVs) having them die on them after some time of us. Not sure is this is strictly driving thru wet condition like riding thru deep water. I don't plan on using my bike as a mini submarine but I do cross some streams and they can get deep. At a minimum the power steering motor will get splashed. I assume Polaris has them sealed up for all weather conditions but any one have any problems with their power steering failing on them on their ATV that has some age on it? I like the idea of EPS but I dont wanna pay $800 for something that might break on me. Reminds me of my friends cheap off brand winch he bought. After a few dunks in water from it being installed very low in the frame of his bike the motor was dead.
I'd like to hear comments on your EPS experiences, good or bad.
