Hi all. I just bought the sportsman 570 and just joined here so figured I post a thread and figure out how this site works. Also wondering how often people actually change out the oil? First new bike so I want to make sure I take good care of it.

Man some people change fluids early just to be safe! Depends on what kinda terrain u ride. A lot of mud and water and dust require more frequent changes.

Welcome to the board! Sorry, I can't be of much help since have just completed my 570's break in but I plan to closely follow the manufacture's recommendation's with regard to scheduled maintenance. With no more hours than I ride, I think that it will allow me to change the oil twice a year (spring/fall), unless I accidently go deep and require an immediate fluid chance.

Seriously man whoopin was just pointing him in the right direction. It was the answer I was going to give him as well.

These bikes come with manuals for a reason. OP open yours up and read thru it, will answer most questions about maintenance. Abide by the recommended maintenance schedule in your owners manual and your bike will give you many years of service. Welcome to the board!

Thanks everyone. I was just trying to see if most follow the manual or have their own $.02. I guess I should've been more specific. Won't be going through too tough of terrain so I guess I'll stick to the manual. Thinking about mud though, how does everyone feel about the battery placement on the 570?

There have been a few comments about it in some threads. I don't own a 570, but those who do have said its a non issue.

I'm sure Polaris wouldn't put it there if it was going to be a problem but spending my entire life (albeit 19 years) working with electricity, terminals out in the open like that just worry me. Anybody's $.02 on anything is appreciated as this is only my second bike

I currently have a Honda TRX400ex in my garage and a coolster 110cc kid quad. Both have the batteries in the rear wheel well open to anything the rear tires can throw at them. If the batteries are ok there. You won't have any issues with the battery on the 570. Welcome to the board. and as it's been said. follow manufacturers guidelines on your maintenance schedule. Earlier if you've got concerns. You'll never hurt your machine by performing proper maintenance.

I don't know if the 570 has a sealed AGM battery. On my wife's '99 335 the battery is in the left rear wheel well. I put a sealed AGM in when we got it about 3 years ago and it has been fine. No corrosion issues and no contamination issues with it being sealed.

On both my 450 and 570 sportsman's I think its horrible placement. Within 6 months I've have to change mine. after the 4th on the 2018 450, I stopped buying the expensive $100.00+ batteries and now order a $40.00 one off of amazon. That one has been the longest lasting ones. The very first battery I had on the 2020 570 exploded. Yes, Exploded. I put a brandy new one in an cleaned up the mess, and it went out in a month. The battery case was actually cracking.

So I said self, These batteries are either pure junk or its the bike. I went and lined the battery boxes (for lack of a better term) with that black Gorilla tape on both bikes, and the problem seems to have gone away.

I ride these things through the Arizona desert and some of the river bottoms are so bumpy it knocks your feet clean off the pads. I don't know who though of this placement but your battery is out in the open for every rock, branch and bump out there sitting on a metal frame. The Gorilla tape gave it just enough padding so it quit beating itself to death. In all fairness to the bike mfg. I did catch my 15 yr old jumping the 450. he (not kidding) had it at least 10 ft. in the air. I was wondering why he always brought it back and something was broken. Apparently it was the thing to do with his friends.

I'm sure the OP (who was last seen in Aug. of 2014) will appreciate the response to his post that had nothing to do with batteries about your solution to an isolated problem that apparently only you seem to have. I use AGM batteries and place them on a rubber pad (cut from a piece of old truck mudflap) and have never experienced a battery failure from anything other than old age. Please check my spelling as I do not have spell check on my device, but don't criticize my punctuation as I flunked English.
