Ok so i bought a 2003 Polaris sportsman that had no spark because i knew the previous owner and I new all I needed was a coil. Fast forward to tonight: I installed the new coil and she fired right up but now it seems like i have to almost go to half throttle in order to begin moving. In other words i am turning a huge amount of RPMs and barley going 5 miles an hour. I'm scared I'm going to blow it up. Has anyone had this problem or know what it may be.

I've never owned an ATV before, do the belts normally go bad? I also changed the stator but I don't believe that should matter.

if the motor is running well then you have a clutch/belt issue. Pull off the cover and see whats happening when you rev it up. The front one should squeeze together and the rear one should widen out. Check the belt for severe glazining on the belt and make sure there are no critters houses inside the houseing.

If the belt has not been changed in awhile, start with a new belt. If that does not fix it, sounds like something with the clutches. Did it used to have large tires on it (wondering if the clutches have a problem, or if they have a kit in them for large tires)?
