I was changing fluids on my wheeler. Pulled the drain plug on the transmission and the plug had signs of something hitting it. It was ground flat. So I reached my finger in the hole and there is a gear right there. It moves slightly side to side and up and down. What's wrong?

It is the chain that is rubbing. Mine rubs the drain plug too but not severely.

Bearing shot? Something to worry about?

No. The bottom side of the chain rides rather low in the transmission. Low enough to just slightly rub against the end/edge of the plug which protrudes into the bottom of the gearcase.

Mine has been like that since day one. IIRC it has worn across about one third of the end of the plug. I briefly considered using a thicker sealing washer or perhaps grinding down the end of the plug myself to gain a smidgen of clearance but never got around to it.
