Hi, I have a sportsman 90. When starting cold with choke it is starts and dies unless I give it a little throttle. When started it will die at idle without a little throttle. After I run for 5 to 10 minutes it starts fine and idles will.

I inspected the carb recently and cleaned all holes with wire brush bristle and carb cleaner. It was pretty clean.

Do I need to adjust the idle screw on the carb or should check the throttle need in the carb is in highest position. Could it need a fresh spark plug Or am I missing something else?

Thanks

Slide needle should be in the middle position, adjust the idle mixture screw for smoothest idle when fully warm (after being run for about 20 minutes) - use non-ethanol fuel (the higher the alcohol content the more erratic the idle) - a new spark plug can work wonders especially on a two stroke 90 and is a good first step on a 4 stroke - if it's a four stroke, check the valve clearance when the engine is cold (72 degrees F)
