Not sure about Polaris, but, my Son had a Kawasaki Bayou 220 that he was not willing to put a battery in. It would barely turn over then refuse to move. He could successfully make it start and run with the recoil starter, until the battery died altogether. Hope that helps.

yes it will start without the starter motor installed provided you have a pull start.

That is not good. If you are unable to turn over the motor by pulling you have another much more serious issue. Do this. Pull out the spark plug and see if you can pull over the motor. If it is really hard then put some oil in the plug hole and let it sit. Try again. If that is of no help then pull off the recoil starter and see what is going on in there.

I ran it yesterday,,,,ran pretty hard with no issues!!!

I went to start before loading it on the truck....thats when the pull stat was really stiff

I never put it away wet....although the bike is used,,,and i know the pull starter has water on it when i use it.....

think the pull start finally had enough? bendix....rust etc??

thanks for your input guys

What year and model #? Try what INR suggested with removing the spark plug and trying to pull it over/start if over again.

Too early in diagnostics to tell, but if ya ran it hard yesterday and now it won't even spin the over via starter or pull rope, there is definitely something wrong there. What's your oil level at?

update

I pulled spark plug,,,and tried pull start
it worked a few times,,,,(pull easier)
then i tried the starter and then it got really hard to pull

i am thinking the bendix is "gummed" up or rusted and is engaging the flywheel,,,, the pull start to be very hard to pull

next move,,,,take pull start side and bendix off,,,,

Makes me want to take all (4) of my recoil starters off and make sure everything is up to snuff! Also, makes me want to put silicone sealer on the recoil starter handle cup where it meets the case until I need to yank on it!!!
