I put new altenator. And drive belt on and starter. Now when I put it in gear or when it shifts begging to be hard to shift or skips past neutral and hard to get into high. Once in gear it sounds like a power steering squeal but if lean to left it stops if lean to right it starts and gets louder. What would cause this and the shifting to be hard to shift. It has been sitting for 6 months or so. It backfired really hard once but sounds fine when idleing and reving up. Wondering if time for rebuild or what here.

Sounds like your motor mounts may be loose or broken and it is causing misalignment of the belt. The squealing and hard shifting is caused by misalignment, assuming you are referring to 2007 500HO since you tagged that.

It is 2007 model 500 H O. The front mount does lift up some. The hard shift is just getting it from park to the other gears. Thanks for the info. I will get mounts changed and see if this changes things. I just don't want to chance driving it and more damage to happen.
