i recently bought a 2000 Polaris Scrambler 500 4x4 the first few months it ran fine . the pull start works great but the electric start does not . Every time i push up on the start button all i hear is a single click . I put the battery on trickle charge for about 10 hours while i slept and woke up hooked battery up and it still has that single click . The lights work fine/ by lights i mean i hooked up 1 light to it to work as a spot light . The previous owner said the battery was new ... it didnt look new and if it was a dead battery shouldnt it start with the charger on 10amps or does it need more power than that.... obviously i dont want to put it on 50 amps... i like my french fries fried.. not my wire harness

any and all advise would be greatly appreciated :unknw:

well did you try jumping the starter or crossing the solinoid contacts, it could be eiither?
Your battery may be good but if it is bad it will not start or run without.
Check the battery amps and or take it in to an auto parts store to check.

i tried crossing on the solonoid and the started turned over but sounded weak
i think i might need a new solonoid and the battery probably needs to be replaced.. how do you jump the starter ... also what should i buy to check the amperage i know its good to have something handy

Get a Multi-meter.
you can connect power directly to the starter.

Make sure your battery has a full charge and your connections are clean and tight.
Try jumping the solenoid with a wire or screw driver (beware of arc). You can also jump the starter like jumping a car with cables or battery hook up.

what about a 12v from other atvs or snowmobiles ? my atv's upstate so i wont be able to mess with it until next month. i'm very hopeful a battery and relay/solenoid does the trick

also whats a good atv battery to get that isnt ultra expensive

yes, they should work.

I like the Deka AGM batteries, thay arent cheap but not too bad at about $70.

Find your Deka- East Penn Mfg. (EPM) distributer.

Also the Extreem Magna Power batteries like the ones they sell at Miejers, they are made by East Penn.

BTW when you buy a battery check the date code and make sure its fresh and fully charged, shelf life could be hell on em....
