Need a little help I have a 2002 sportsman 500 HO. The other day riding back to deer camp I turn my lights on and the starter engaged the bendiex on the fly wheel. It turn off when I switched to high beams, is the switch the problem?
Yep, sounds like you have a problem in the switch. It could just be water shorting it. If you try taking it apart, be very careful and try to get inside to do it. There are tiny springs and little metal balls that will try to fly out and can be nearly impossible to find if you let them get away. You might just try cracking it open a little and flush it out with electrical contact cleaner to drive out any moisture.
sounds like a short from your green wire on switch to wht/red on ign. look around in your pod for any place they might have contact......green is low beam pos. wht red is starter pos, with usually gets power from red/wht when you turn key to start.
