Ok I've been making good progress on the magnum. The starter is sticking now? Point me in the direction to track it down. Should get the tires this week, after a good rattle can job on the wheels it'll be back on the trail
Does it just hang for a second when starting before it disengages, or is it grinding for a couple seconds or longer? Pretty typical of them to disengage a little slow, but it probably just needs the end cleaned up and lubed. Have to pull the starter, clean up the shaft the gear rides on and get a little tiny bit of fresh grease on it.
yes clean the shaft up...use brake cleaner or contact cleaner to remove any crud on it...but use a oil..a grease may get stiff in cold weather...I use 3 in 1 oil..a few drops an good to go.....never use WD-40. it will gum up in time.....marvel Mystery oil works well also....i rebuild Starters for marine outboards...and most problems are dirty shafts or gummed up ....or bad brushes....
