just bought a 06 predator 500 sounds like the valves are loose never heard a polaris predator before this is my first polaris do they have solid lifters or should i tear down and adjust vavles

yes adjust the vavles immediatly its one of the most common neglected maintnance issues with preds thats why most ppl sell them,,,,,,,,,,

most ive done was check the timing on the bike also didnt have spark turned out to be the ETC didnt even know what that was until last night only paid 500 for the bike the kid that had it bought it new and fliped it and was to affraid to get back on it whats your thought on the predator

The predator has a shim under bucket style valve, not the simple loosen the nut and adjust the screw type. Do a little youtube searching and you will find some good videos on doing it. It's not that hard, but takes longer and is a little more complicated. They should be checked every 20-25 hours at most. As little as 10 if you ride it hard.

Also more then likely you should put a new timing chain while your in there if they've never adjusted the valves more then likely the chain is stretched out...... it's an intimidating job by looks but it you watch what your doing and and take your time reading the manual thoroughly you will breeze by it...
