My 2004.5 Sportsman 500 thumb and handle bar heater controls are not working correctly. Thumb will not heat properly and handle bar only heats on low. Can anyone tell me if the heat temp is controlled through a rheostat IN the control switch? Are the switches a common on-off-on switch?

How old is the unit? Might be one of those instances where replacement is cheaper than repair??

Unit is as stated 2004.5. The thumb heater was replaced 4 years ago. It very well may have gone bad again. I'm wondering if the switches are a commend on-off-on switch or does the switch control the heat through a rheostat in the switch. I'm just trying to get some info before I go out in 0 deg. weather to check thing out. Boy been a nasty winter.

On my buddies '09 500, they are OEM polaris, his switch is off-low-high. On his second set of thumb heaters but the first set of grip heaters.
The wires are sooo thin they keep breaking, on the thumb.
