We do a wilderness camping trip every year and I think we take about everything on the above list. A portable jump starter with air compressor and plenty of tire plugs has been invaluable. Also a snatch block has saved us a few times.

People laughed at me when I brought a window squeegee thing for my RZR windshield. But when theirs were covered with mud and I stopped in the middle of a water crossing and dipped the squeegee into the stream and washed my windshield they lined up to borrow it.

Wanted to post to suggest
Its a block and tackle system that will almost fit in your hand with parachute cord. Suggest you check it out lifting 2 strokes sleds off the ground. Not cheap. For me, I take the snowmoble emergency kit and put in the ATV so I don't mind spending dollars for dual use kit. Don't forget a folding saw.

In each of my Polaris Sportsman's I carry:

  • Extra Fuel
  • GPS and extra GPS batteries
  • 12V adapter plugged into the 12V accessory plug with charge cords to keep the phone & GPS always charged
  • Cell phone
  • Tire plugs & install tools and a can of fix a flat just in case
  • Tow strap
  • Jumper cables
  • Rechargeable jump starter
  • Flash light & head mounted light
  • lighter
  • Hatchet
  • Sig .45 hand gun
  • Zip ties
  • Various hose clamps
  • Various hand tools in a tool bag for anything I should encounter in the middle of no where
  • Utility Knife
  • Electrical tape
  • Wet wipes
  • Extra dust masks
  • Clean towels
  • Spare belt
  • Spare spark plugs
  • Spare headlight bulbs
  • Small spool of tough stainless wire
  • Hand air pump
  • Hand pump fuel siphon
  • Ratchet straps
  • Hack saw

I probably have more than all of this but you get the idea. You can't carry enough if you're trying to prepare for the worst but carry all that you can to give yourself the best fighting chance you can! Its like playing Tetris to get everything in place and still be able to close the factory storage compartments if you don't add additional storage.

New to ATVing and by the end of the summer I'll probably be heading out into some remote mountain regions for some back country trail riding, and I'm wondering just what kind of stuff/tools etc I should bring along in case of breakdowns/events etc. Short list so far includes a GPS (probably a Garmin Montana 650T), a tire repair kit, and courtesy of my Mom one of those satellite personal locator beacons, probably the ResQLink+ from ACR.

Any other suggestions for stuff that might come in handy?

I have a good friend and when I asked him how long he thought he could survive after we broke down and ate the meager supplies we had... He just looked at me an asked "after your gone?"

Hi guy!
I recently purchased a 2016 570 touring sp and have been working on my kit. I have all the survival and repair type items but I need help with the tools. Since I haven’t been working on these for long I don’t really know what they need. When it comes to tools what specifically should we keep in the kit? Are there specific sockets we need or don’t need? Hex sizes? Torx sizes? Etc. thanks

I’m working on the same thing for my 2015 570 Touring.

For Torx, off the top of my head I recall T-25, T-27, & T-30.
Don’t forget a socket for your lug nuts, and a philips screwdriver in case you need to access the electrical
under the front storage compartment.
