Let's restart a thread that had been running since 2012.
I went into garage and looked at them all. That's enough for today.

Well lately it's been work on the 2005 Sportsman 400.....

Over our MEA break this past week we went on a day trip Friday, ending in the 2005 being towed back to the trail head / trailer. Long story short... It lost all power after being shut down for a rest break, after running just fine for the 2 hours prior. So, Sunday I started trouble shooting / diagnosing it had power at the battery, then solenoid, then key.... of which it did. But nothing at key turn. Kill switch on run, check?? Probed leads from ignition supply harness and pins on key switch.... something seemed off. I'm stumped at this point?! I then decided to tear apart kill switch housing and found a melted spring blade terminal on the kill switch. Carefully 'repaired' that back to operation and now all is well again!

Then last night we put pulled it into the garage again to add new LED spot lights on the 2005 front bumper.... in the hopes of a 'night ride' before the snow flies or for the need during hunting. Should be just like day time now!

Next up will be maintenance on everything this winter..... all fluids / filter on all 3 machines. And a general look over. As I'm thinking my machine (800) need a review of the clutch / belt.... seems a little grabby / jerky (like the feeling of slow rolling tire tread or belt ribs grabbing) when first bringing up RPM's as it engages for take off??? May be time for a clutch kit.... or good excuse to finally do one!

Sitting at the bottom of a small rise on the farm to get a decent pic of beam pattern and distance. Top of the pic is at least 100' away, probably further since the wife and I'd had a couple beers with dinner earlier and my estimating skills weren't 100%... :grin:grin

Let's pop this to the top!!! Nothing to impressive here but I was running some errands filling the trucks up with diesel and figured I'd pull the 570 out of the upper shed and bring it down to the casa to charge the battery. I have over the past few days been moving the float charger around to the various machines and equipment to charge their batteries. The 570 hadn't been done and was the last to be done. Well the light bulb went on and I figured since I had the pigtail from the 800 off I'd throw it on the 570 since everytime I have charged it in the past I had to pull the hood off which is held down by 4 Torx. So quick little project which makes life a little easier. Don't forget to insulate your wrench!! We don't want any thing to go "POP"!!! FYI it's very very VERY important to match the insulating tape to the color of the machine you're working on 🤣🤪🤭.

I installed my boost switch.

That switch activates the torque converter in the exhaust which boosts HP by activating the flux capacitor.

A bit of preventive maintenance replace my stock plastic throttle lever with the aluminum version (orange) and removed my stock grips without destroying them also moved everything in about 3/8" was hoping to install ODI Rogue grips Black/Red by now but delivery is delayed by the Christmas Holidays. Looks so naked without grips. Handle bar controls already have yellow and red I decide to do some more highlighting.
Made my semi-annual payment to Sheffield Financial today. My balance now is $330.00 I'm now paid up till June 7th. When I bought my ATV in Oct of 2016 I financed for 5 years, and opted only for the 6 month factory warranty, and put down $1,700 cash That brought my payments down to $97.79 per month. Soon after that I learned every time I make a payment and make a subsequent payment in a 24hr period all subsequent payments go straight to the principal. My 1-man landscaping business will kick in in about 60 days and I should have it paid off by May 5 months early. Living off Social Security and a pension sometimes gets rough in the Winter but i flourish in Spring, Summer, and Fall.

Changed out front and rear differential fill and drain plugs with Quad logic differential magnetic front drain plug.
It maybe over-kill but now I have no worries about stripping plugs again as 5/8 6pt socket will get the job done.
