I know this has been asked many times, but for my 2001 sportsman 400, should i use 0w-40, amsoil 0w-50 mobil 1 or 5w-50 castrol i usually only use my atv in the winter, what would be the best oil for me

Kinda like a special well water filter thats impregnated with citric acid, the acid has a positive state which neutralizes calcium so the filter is able to separate it from the water. No more white crusty faucets!
Still flows thru the front block passages and thru the heads to keep the head temps down. The motor was built for a pull truck that travels 300ft in about 6 seconds.
Perhaps they're trying to take advantage of the latest advances in oil technology and back-specing the latest-and-greatest to all their engines. When Polaris sold and recommended 0w40 there weren't many 5w50 oils around and those that were around were high-dollar racing oils. Now oil technology makes 5w50 oil available at a reasonable price and it covers more temperature ranges, truly an arctic to the equator, around the world oil, so they upgraded their spec.
That's my take on it anyway.
