Can someone please tell me why the CDI box for a 2006 Hawkeye is different than the 2007 through 2010 hawkeye models also is there a difference in the flywheel between the 06 hawkeye and 07 through 10 hawkeye models. On my 06 model I'm done replace the CDI three times and every time I had to replace it is $300 whereas the 07 through 10 CDI box is only 20 bucks. So basically what I want to do is take an 07 CDI box and put it on my 06 model but I think the difference is in the flywheel I think the timing marks are different and I think that's the only difference between the 06 in the 07 through 10 models anybody help me out please

The 06 CDI box is part number 3089862 and is no longer available
The 07 CDI box is part number 3089978 and cost $360

I'm curious where you get the $20 CDI box?

Now according to the wiring diagrams, the stators have the same resistances
06
150681
07
150682

According to the parts breakdowns both use the same stator - part number 3089853 and the stator is NLA

The 06 used flywheel # 3089851 - 07 3089974

I theorize there is a difference in the strength of the magnets of the flywheels which changes the working voltage of the CDI unit. The wiring is the same and the crankshaft is the same, so if you can get an 07 flywheel and put it on the 06 and use an 07 CDI box, you will be the first to know if it will convert the 06 to the $20 CDI box.

Or you might just try a $20 cdi box on the 06 and it might work without changing the flywheel.

Let us know what you decide to do and how it works out for you.

If I could find a 20$ cdi box for an 06 that works, I will send you a 100 cash. Try searching for one online. Round #3 06 CDI cost me $360.00.
Have you tried the $20 CDI on the 06? They are wired the same, resistances are the same and it might be that the 07 CDI will work on the 06 without changing the flywheel. Or you might swap flywheels and CDI from the 07 to the 06.

I am not the engineer who designed the systems, but since the stators are the same, the crankshafts are the same, the coils are the same and the wiring is the same, I see no reason that it cannot be converted to the 07 system.

Ok I bought an 07 flywheel and the magnetic strips are different, about 3/4 of an inch offset. But I am still having problems it wants to act like it wants to start but it doesn't it seems like I'm getting a bunch of backfire. Any ideas???

Here's a dumb question; you had the CDI unit fail on the 06 3 times and how many times on the 07?

I just checked the CDI unit for the 07 - it's part number 3089978 and costs $360, so I need to know how many of the $30 CDI units you have successfully installed and used on the 07 model you have?

I'm starting to suspect you have never purchased one of the POS Amazon CDI's for the 07 and only presumed it would work if you bought it and put it on the 07, but have actually never tried it?

I guess you get what you pay for. Good luck - if a new plug does not fix it, pull the entire ignition system off the 07 and put it on the 06 and see if that fixes it - then put the 06 ignition on the 07 and see how it holds up. You are the guinea pig here as you have the machines to experiment with. I am Merlin and trying to magically envision what you have and what you have done.
