I'm looking at redoing my winch, new rope, guide and hook.
Currently the machine came with the roller type guides and synthetic rope.
I like the rope, I'm cool with using it (but new).
My question is: pros & cons of the roller vs. the "plate" (with rounded edges)?
Honestly, it doesn't see a whole lot of usage, but them rollers are damn ugly.

Either is fine with rope.
I'd stick to rollers with a steel cable. Just my opinion
Some say to change whatever you have on there if you are going from steel cable to rope because there may be burrs or sharp edges that will kill the rope quickly.
No issues going from rope to steel cable.

For rope, use a fairlead. Pros, no burs, and you can get them in colours to make your quad look even better.

Fairlead is the generic term for any winch cable/rope guide out there.

A "hawse" fairlead is what you want for rope

A roller failead for steel cable
