I am 68 years old and never have rode an ATV. Just brought a 2007 Polaris 450 Sportman with 50 hrs use. Hope that is a good start. Have some timber land to ride over and think I might need a winch, Would like some ideals on which on to get. Thanks, Butch
There are lots of good ones out there at lots of different price points. A couple of mid value ones I have had include Runva (Canada) and the Superwinch (Terra line). Lot's of other good ones too. KFI makes good mounts and are avail. on ebay. Go for synthetic winch line if you can. It's a lot more old guy skin friendly than gnarly frayed wire rope.
Welcome to the forum. There are lots of winch threads on here if you search.
Depends on how much you'll us it and what it's intended use is for.
With that said.... if it's a general purpose, not used to often add on (plowing snow, and ocation tow out). I've read and heard many good things about the Harbor Freight Badlands winch (I think it's a 3000-3500 lbs rated).
If it's used day in and day out for towing yourself out of "situations".... I'd recommend a Warn, Viper or Superwinch brand.
