I am looking to go to a heavier and new winch for my sportsman 500HO ,,I looked at the warn 4500s for 700+ and the promax for around 400+. Obviously the warn is a much better winch ,but is it worth the extra $300 ? and what is the best weight ? my winch is a 2000lb and still trying to figure out which would be right 2500,3000,3500,4000,,,,do I need that extra winch power? I know it would be nice to havre a winch that is capable for anything but would going to 4000lb and up be overkill?

If you do a lot of mudding and ride in very heavy mud, a 4000 might be just what you need, but just for emergency situations that don't involve a lot of mud, 4000 might be a little much. I have a 3500lb on mine and doubt I will ever need everything it could do

If you go over 3500lb look for a synthetic line kit. Much safer and lighter weight is something to look foward to

I picked up a Warn Vantage 3500 lbs winch and mount for my 13 sportsman 500 and I love it. Works great summer and winter. No issues at all. Got winch kit and warn mount for $355.00 tax in.

I don't think you need more than a 2500-3000. I have pulled a razor out with my 2500. I don't think I would go smaller though. Remember you are buying a winch to get YOU unstuck, not to lift small building. I have a 2500 on my 500x2 and my 550 x2. Never been in anything they did not get me out of. Obviously if the next size up was similar money, I would go bigger...but I think a 4500 is too much winch for a 500.

I did try to pull a full size ATV out with the 1500 lb winch on my 300 and it couldn't do it (straight line pull, no snatch block).

plus if you carry (and use) a snatch block, you double your line pull

Be sure to check the overall measurements of the winch and compare to your mounting location.

Thanks Guy's ,I'm thinking the 3500lb Promax is the direction I will be going ,the same in Warn is almost double the money

I just checked Royals pricing and the Warn is 628.00 for the 3500 synthetic rope and the Promax is 259.00 for the 3500 synthetic ,guess I will have to find out whether I made a smart choice or not.

My 2500 Warn has been enough for my needs. But I don't have the mud bogs like a lot of you guys ride. Mostly it gets used for lifting the snowplow or pulling a buddy out who got stuck in the snow. I think I've only used the snatch block a time or two.
