Interesting.I guess I'll try it one way and if it doesent charge I'll swap them.
My being so cautious is because I just hooked a new one up and all of a sudden it looked like I had a fog machine in my garage. I had the red wire to power and the brown to ground. The VR melted big time, im so annoyed.

 

If I’m not mistaken they can be wired anyway. Non specific!

 

Depending on who wound the stator the charging side of the stator has a yel/red and a yellow wire going to the rec/reg and it make no difference which one is connected to which one, however if you connected the rec/reg red to the battery and brn to ground and it let the magic smoke out, then it won't work and needs to be replaced

 

Yep, if the magic smoke escaped its toast. You'll need a new one.

 

If it went ‘Up in Smoke’ can you replace it with ‘Magic Dust’?

Thanks for everyone's help. I hooked the yellow to yellow and the yellow/red to the yellow/black and she charges great. It's actually charging at idle, which it never did. Thanks everyone for an the help
