Well I guess there is now :party43:

I used to traverse Wyoming quite often. Brother and Sister in-law used to live in Rock Springs. I used to go up to Cody, Yellowstone, Jackson and ate pancakes at Cheyenne Days a few times. Hunted mule deer at Baggs one year. Brothers are going up near Newcastle in a couple weeks to exterminate a few prairie dogs.
I lived for 20 years in Riverton and Casper, other than the harsh winters, not a bad place if you don't need to make a living. I now own a small farm in the Ozarks and don't miss Wyoming at all. I love the green trees, grass, and abundance of life everywhere.
I think I have had enough desert, sage brush, 70mph wind, and 30 below temps.
I know Willow Springs. Nice country. Was through there last summer going and coming from St Louis. I am from Independence originally and have relatives scattered all over the state. Homestead still in the family outside Pierce City.
Well, it's a small world isn't it. Moving to Willow Springs was the best thing I ever did. I have a great little farm with many places to ride my ATV. I raise my own food, and enjoy the beautiful country I live in.
I like Southern MO and always have. I always liked it around Roaring River, the towns of Cross Timbers and Ava. Unfortunately, I chose a profession that forced me to move and live in one of these large metro areas. I've been here the better part of 30 yrs now, so hopefully - someday soon we might be able to get away from this urban sprawl and live again.
I was close to retirement, had my home paid for and no bills when we moved out here from Vancouver WA. That was in 2004. I got a job as a manager for MFA oil company here in Willow and retired from there last year
When we found this place, just 3 miles from Willow, the land was gorgeous but the house was a disaster. Had I the money I would have torn it down and started over. I stripped it down the the studs inside and re-did everything, wiring, plumbing, raised the sagging ceilings and now the place is a nice little house.
I have a milk cow, coupe of pigs, chickens, and a couple of dogs. I raise a big garden, and we have planted an orchard.
This year I have added bees. I will have to see how I can keep them going.

That keeps the rift raft out-/ And did you know that WYOMING has the largest supply of natural gas in the entire USA COMBINED!!!!:ura: to heat all those back east homes-??? so crank up the heat-- it makes me money!!!!!
No place to work? It is a place to produce HUGE money within Wonderful Wyoming.
Ya we get the wind but not even close to 70.. Summertime bugs..you in Orzarks. have all that and the roaches also. We have all the abundance in life and 4 seasons here... ya ever been to 13,000'?? ... the views in this state and the quality of wildlife are breath taking.....
Dont like the 30 below temps? well I can put enough clothes on to stay warm- Can you take enough clothes off to cool??:vogel: We don't have the + 90 temps with 50% humidity like the Ozarks either Oh and for the summer ATV rides... we don't have road closers like ya all do.. we can ride just about anywhere here in the cowboy state..
Love it....

Man that is great! I am pleased that you are where you are happy, when someone finds a place that is good for them that is where they should be.
I left Wyoming in 1989, and have never looked back. As for the cold temps, check out the winter of 1968. and as for wind, look at Dubois or Casper mountain. Keep enjoying your wide open spaces, and most of all RIDE SAFE

one winter 32 years ago.. I will take them odds/ and you living in Vancouver you should be aware of winter and cold temps.
Glad you are where you want to be... but slamming Wyoming- I had to shed a brighter light.. Thats all/ no harm -no foul.

I didn't mean to slam anyone, I just stated the facts as I saw them, I feel that living in the Pavillion/ Riverton area from 1969 to 1984 then Casper from 1984 to 1989 gave me enough experience to comment. It is true I don't have many happy memories of that state but you must admit the high planes are not for everyone.
Vancouver WA has a much milder climate than Wyoming, not near a cold or as hot.
Here in Missouri I have a small farm with 4 ponds that the grandchildren love to fish in. As for bugs, you bet! I have a bunch of chickens that run free and keep the bugs in line.
Enjoy the high planes, as for me, I have found for me what I have always searched for.
From my place I can ride through my north pasture onto the National Forest and ride for miles and miles, haven't see any closed roads yet. In places more urban than here they may have them, but none I have found around here.
You would get a kick out of many of the folks around here, when they ask about the war, they are referring to the "Northern War of Aggression". No kidding!
Some people out here still make their own whiskey! and if you don't own a gun you are not the "right kind of folks". Yep, I fit right in.
Happy Riding

YEE- HAW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and here is a picture of them high planes( as you call them) as recent as last month ..
Don't let 2 of the most windy dust towns make you paint ugly pictures of the Cowboy state. Your the one that decided to live where it is most undesirable.. and things have changed BIG in 21 years.. cannot comment with reason on the Past... Enough of this barn yard happiness -Go feed them there chickens some bugs.. Me thinks they are getting hungy...
Yee.. HAW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

live in douglas, wyoming, work out in the powder river basin, where the 2 largest coal mines in the world are. as the wind goes, look at glenrock, ive easily seen wind over 70 on the eastern side of the state, but i stay inside. as for the cold, and snow, i have a snowmobile, and wyoming is one of the best places to ride anywhere.
I see "Fishers ATV World" on the Outdoor Channel rated the Bighorns as their favorite place to ride.I'd love to spend some time exploring there on my quad. I usually just drive thru coming or going to Sturgis on my Harley. I camp out at the 'Flying V" north of Newcastle. Great country to visit and lots of nice folks.
nice to see others in Wyoming!!! I live in Farson a tiny dot on the map. We have Country Burgers here if your looking for a great hambuger! and dont forget about the ICE Cream Store! Great riding all around us. Anyone going to go on the poker run first part of June in Green River?

oh I just got this from a friend talking about more closures! dang federal goverment cant keep up with what its got now want to run more.

Its getting bad here in western MT too. Gates everywhere. And now the Forest Service has "Law Enforcement" officers out hassling people. They set up a roadblock last year during one of our ATV Poker runs. Checked registrations etc...You now have to be "Street Legal" to ride on a forest road. That means having a horn, mirror, etc. If you ride the ATV trails (which we have few of) you need a off-road sticker also. The FS guy wasn't amused when I asked him "why do we need FS Law Enforcement, are trees really breaking the law"? He said,"No...you people break the laws". They also had a wash station for cleaning your rides before the start of the run. Its to stop the spread of weeds. But I guess its ok for the out of staters to take some of our lovely Spotted Knapweed home with them, the wash station was gone when we got back.

ur giving farson too much credit for being a blip on the map lol jk, been through there a few times better pay attention or u might miss it when u go by, how big is the poker run in green river, may have to check it out always lookin for an excuse to go ride somewhere else
think they had 250 hands bought last year. not for sure at one spot over 50 ATVs the ride is from FMC park out to the lake then back. its some nice riding and you always get someone thinking they can run on the banks of the river and get stuck. funny stuff
sounds like a good time, although i would probably be the guy that ends up on the bank of the river stuck lol, but its always fun to go somewhere new, may have to check it out, we also have a poker run up at esterbrook the weekend after the 4th of july, they're raffling off a ranger up there, all the proceeds go to the ambulance and fire department up there, they also do a four wheeler pull and an obstacle course, usually a pretty good time
