I've read multiple threads about the Sportsman XP 1000 exhaust getting hot, glowing, melting plastic, etc. However, what we don't have a grip on is what percentage of folks are having issues and to what extent. I'd like to start this poll so that hopefully we get a representative sample over time. This gives folks the opportunity to rate the level of issues, if any they are having.
When I took mine out for 3 hours the other day but couldn't tell any real heat issues but I'm going to ride all weekend so I'll give a report on monday
Thanks MaxP - the difference between #1 and #2 is supposed to be that #1 means no issues whatsoever, #2 means the plastic is getting rather hot - hotter than it should. Incidentally that's where mine is at - there's one spot on the right side where the black plastic by the exhaust (just below the gap with the upper painted plastic) gets very hot - will burn you if you touch it, but it's not close to melting (yet).
Good insights so far - let's keep the poll/discussion going!
i haven't really seen any complaints about the scrambler 1000 exhaust getting too hot but there is definitely an issue with the sportsman 1000 due to the newly designed exhaust. keep in mind that the scrambler and sportsman use completely different exhaust systems so i think this poll should stay isolated to the sportsman 1000 or the results are going to vary all over the place.
Thanks for the clarification. I've changed my original post to remove "Scrambler". I don't know if I can modify the Poll title to state "Sportsman" but if anyone knows how, please advise.
I'm curious men, the guys that responded "no heat issues". Your muffler doesn't turn red at all ? If it don't, you guys are lucky. I'm sick and tired of my muffler turning bright red. Polaris says its normal!
Well i'm legit and mine does not overheat.. The only issue I had with mine was a defective prop shaft. Replaced under warranty.. Only down side it took 7 weeks to get the part..
I think if my 1000 was overheating I would go to the Big Gun exhaust. Very nice looking system. I am really tempted to do it anyway.. Does anyone know if a programmer is required? after install?
Yep I had my front drive shaft changed to it was out of balance, only in the shop one week
the problem with some dealers they are on red credit with Polaris, either by paper work not filled out or credit
I put a set of underbody light for mine as it stays dark in Alaska through the winter, I have to say, the cherry red of the muffler gives the lights a run for their money in brightness. 650 miles - no melted plastic, but also no temps above 35 either.
this is what concerns me. i haven't ridden mine in any temps above freezing for the most part so i'm wondering what it will be like on one of those 90 degree summer days? i told my dealer about the glowing issue and he said it is normal for the exhaust to glow red where it comes out of the head. his jaw dropped when i told him, "no, the actual muffler is glowing red". he said that they will contact polaris to see if there is any updates or bulletins about it.
I just ran mine up and down hills and rode it hard over 3 hours...stopping every now and then to check the muffler...no problems boys...even the plastics are fine and it was 68 degrees today... so again I'm thinking there was a bad patch of mufflers that was put out...after hearing some of the reports on here I was really nervous...let me ask those that are having heat issues, did you notice it right at the start of you running your 1000??
